Celebrate design in one night of vision and innovation
MANILA, Philippines - BluPrint magazine held their 5th Annual Visionary Design Competition (AViD5) awards last March 13 at World Trade Center Manila during the 19th Philippine World Building and Construction Expo (WorldBEX).
AViD was launched "to take Philippine museums from traditional to innovative," according to a press release from One Mega Group (OMG). Entrants were asked to design a concept for a contemporary art museum located at the heart of Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Professionals (architects), students, and graduates of the arts participated in the competition.
The winners
Professional Division: “Liwasang MU.NA (MUseo ng NApapanahong sining)”
Designed by Voltaire Manalo, Ted William Ang, and John Ross Lucilo of Arkisens
Liwasang MU.NA is a proposal for an art museum that employs the idea of a public park and a “new museum.” It aims to bring contemporary art closer to everyone, contradicting the common perception that art is appreciated only by the highest classes in society. It also presents a general sense of openness and a continuous relationship between indoors and the outdoors is presented by the interlocking compositions of space and structures.
Students and Graduates Division: Michael Dave Bognadon of St Louis University
Bognadon’s entry was inspired by standard cube shipping containers which, in his words, are “efficiently constructed while remaining true to its purpose.”
The judges
The panel of judges was headed by award-winning Architect Ed Calma. Also in the panel were School of Fashion and the Arts Dean, Architect Tobias Guggenheimer, and Architect Michael Pena.
