Filipino craftsmanship and design shine at the bi-annual trade fair

MANILA, Philippines - Pinoy design -- whether made out of indigenous or recycled materials -- always stands out.

Last March 31 to April 2, 15 Filipino brands exhibited at Fashion Access Hong Kong held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Their participation came under the banner of Fashion Philippines, organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), organizer of the bi-annual Manila FAME.

CITEM is the export promotions arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in partnership with the Garments and Textile Industry Development Office (GTIDO).

"Filipino designers and craftsmen continuously challenge the limits of both material and technique. It is not enough to project what Philippine design is about -- they also want to present what Philippine design will be, and could be about," said Rosvi C. Gaetos, CITEM executive director. "Rich, vibrant, and contemporary fashion accessories and wearables are the signature of Fashion Philippines.”

Among the materials used in the products showcased were raffia, banig, and ikat weaves; and natural materials such as shells and animal horns.
